Director's Message (Tom Landes)

Arcadia high School's Apache Marching Band is looking forward to the 2002-2003 school year. The Marching Band has 380 members and the Color Guard has 62 members. The performance opportunities this year will include: the Placentia, Mt. Carmel, Chino, and La Palma Band Reviews and the Valencia, Mt. Carmel, Chino, Los Altos Field Tournaments. We also hope to Qualify for the S.C.S.B.O.A. Field Championships in late November.

Following our competitive season, we will represent California in the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade. Later in Janurary will be the annual Spaghetti Dinner performances. In February we will begin our Concert Season preparations. In March we will be holding three different concerts including Spring Concert #1 in the North Gym. the District Band Vertical Concert at Citrus College, and a performance at the California State Music Convention in Pasadena. May will hold the annual Pop's Concert in the North Gym for Band 2 and Band 3, and will conclude with the Concert in the park featuring Concert Band 1. We are proud of all our students and the fine music they create. Please plan on attending several of these performances providing positive support to all who are involved.

This years music for the field show was selected from four differrent pieces written by composer David Holsinger. Last year the band played his piece "To tame the perilous skies" and really loved it, so we thought we ought to look into other pieces he has written. The titles of the four selection the band performs are Abram's Pursuit; Homage :Tapestry Two; Ballet Sacra; and To Tame the Perilous Skies. The parade march for this year is another new one to the Southern California parade scene, it is entitled "Revelation" by William Paris Chambers. It is very interesting compositionally and is quite tuneful.
