A special issue of
Arcadia Music Club Newsletter dedicated to AHS Percussion is
available on line. Please click the paragraph title to see how the
Percussion groups captured the highest honors at four competitions
attended, including WGI regional in Riverside, SCPA (Southern
California Percussion Association) Regionals at Pierce College and
Ayala High School, and a competition held at Mission Viejo. Also

Band Fusion - March 5, 2003 |
|
|
Over 150 8th grade music students from three Arcadia Middle schools attended Band Fusion in AHS North
Gym on March 5th. Hosted by the AHS music directors and band students, the incoming freshmen were
introduced to various music programs in high school and had an
opportunity to experience the feeling of rehearing with 300+ fellow students. The evening ended
with a concert featuring Concert Band 3 and a grand finale with all the participating students.

Orchestra Benefit Dinner Pictures are Online |
|
|
On February 22, 2003, the Arcadia Music Club sponsored the 9th Annual Orchestra Benefit Dinner and Concert.
This is a fundraising event that is held annually at the Arcadia Community Center. The evening begins with a
catered dinner, followed by string ensemble performances featuring our fine student musicians. Next on the
program is our Guest Artist performance, this year featuring
Billy Mitchell’s group. Mr. Mitchell is an outstanding
jazz pianist who also writes a number of songs and books. The Benefit Concert concludes with the Orchestra Finale, highlighting the over 330
members of the Orchestra performing for the audience.

Spaghetti
Dinner - Saturday, January 18, 2003 |

|
The
Apache Marching Band hosts the 36th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Recognition
Show on Saturday January 18, 2003. This exciting show caps the marching season.
The Band and Color Guard perform all the music from the season just past. There
are featured performances by the Drum Major, Guard, Percussion, Princesses, and
Pep Band. Also, there is a “Drill Down” – a drill competition for the whole
band – and a pictorial remembrance of the season as the band says an emotional
farewell for the year.
A
delicious dinner of pasta with marinara sauce, salad, roll, and punch is
served. Desserts, soft drinks, souvenirs, and photos of the season are for
sale. The show plays at 5, 7, and 9 p.m. in the North Gym. Dinner is served
from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Cafeteria. (Click the tile to see

| 2002 Band Pictures Are Online |
|
|
The 2002 band pictures at various
activites for the past two months are now online. The pictures cover
Music Club Car Wash Fundraiser,
home football game performance, Band in costumes,
Mt. Carmel Field Tournament, and
band review and award cerempony. A big thanks to Jim Tanner for these wonderful
pictures.

Arcadia Music Club each time you shop!
Each time you swipe your card to get your club benefits, you could be
sending money to AMC. Vons will send a percentage of your purchases to AMC so
that we can purchase instruments for Orchestra and Band.
If you do not have a Vons/Pavilions card, you can purchase
grocery store scrip (gift certificates) from other markets and they will
contribute money to our program.

Arcadia Music Program featured at CMEA State
Conference - March 13, 2003 |
|
|
|
The entire Arcadia music program will be highlighted at the
2003 California Association for
Music Education (CMEA) state conference to be held in Pasadena, March 12-15. On March 13, the
Elementary band and string orchestra will be performing
from 12:00 to 1:00; Arcadia High Concert Band III will perform from
1:15 to 2:15; First Avenue symphony band and orchestra will be
performing from 2:30 to 3:30; Arcadia High School Orchestra, both
string and symphony will be performing from 3:45 to 4:45; and
Arcadia High School percussion will conduct a one hour clinic on
March 14 from 8am to 9am.

Rose Parade Schedule is Out |
|
|
|
The Arcadia Apache Marching Band and Color Guard
will be marching down Colorado Blvd. for the 13th time in the Rose Parade on New Year's day, 2003! Two
rehearsals are scheduled on Dec. 27th and Dec. 28th from 8AM to 11:30AM. On the morning of Dec. 30th, the Arcadia
Band will perform its field show at the BandFest held at Pasadena City College. The
performance starts at 10AM and our band is scheduled to perform at 12:10PM. On New Year's day, band students
are to report at school at 5AM. The Rose Parade starts at 8:30AM and our band is the 91th entry out of
approximately 110 groups. Students and parents, please click on the title to see the detailed schedule

| Arcadia High Holiday Concert - Thursday, December 12 |
|
|
|
Arcadia High School Music Department presents a Holiday Concert on
Thursday, December 12th, 7PM at the beautiful San Gabriel Civic Auditorium located at 320
S. Mission Drive, San Gabriel. Featuring Arcadia High School String Orchestra 2, Symphony
Orchestra, Treble Choir, Concert Choir, New Spirit and Chanteurs, it is guaranteed to be a
delightful evening full of holiday festivities. Tickets are $8 for adult and $4 for student
and child. Tickets are available from the Music Department at (626)821-1785.

| Festival of Bands Pictures Are Online |
|
|
The 49th Annual Arcadia
Festival of Bands was held on Saturday, November 16th. 35 high school bands from
Southern California competed at the Band Review and 12 schools participated in the field
tournament. Rancho Bernardo High School won sweekstake for both the band review and the

Mt. Carmel Tournament - October 26 |
|
|
Drum Major, Ben Jiang, won first
place at the Mt. Carmel
Tournament again! Overall, the Apache Marching Band won first place and
the Auxiliary won 2nd place. The
marching band also won Parade Band Sweepstake and Parade Band Music Sweepstake. Congratulations to Ben and all the
marching band and color guard members, you are awesome!

Placentia Parade & Valencia Field Tournament - October 12 |
Congratulations! the
AHS Marching Band and Color Guard did great in their first
competition on Saturday, October 12th. The Marching Band won
2nd place in the Placentia Parade and 1st place in the
Valencia Field Tournament. AHS Color Guard won 3rd place in
the parade and 1st in the field show. Drum Major Ben Jiang
won first place in the parade. Percussion got 1st place and
the entire band won Visual Sweepstake in the field show.
