ARCADIA MUSIC CLUB
GENERAL MEETING
January 15, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by President, Nanci Perkins. Nanci announced that the Arcadia Music Club year was from July 1 - June 30th. She distributed a list of Chair positions and an organizational chart. Anyone interested in these positions should let Nanci know - NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY for these jobs!

Directors’ report:

Art Farr - Benefit dinner is on February 23 with the vertical concert occurring five days later. The music club is still receiving money for the car wash.

Kevin Sherrill - Percussion is preparing for the Spaghetti dinner. JV percussion will perform 2 1/2 to 3 minutes from their music THE MASK OF ZORRO. Varsity will perform 2 1/2 minutes from their music CLONES. A drill writer has been working with them for the first time. All students seem to be back on track after vacation. Thank you to parents for all the hard work behind the set: Josette Schwartz and Nanci Perkins for designing the costumes; Cindi McCarthy for actively dealing with the money and travel arrangements; and the dads that are helping with the sets. Ed Shriver has been building things for them all year round; Joe McCarthy has been driving the truck. Season starts with Varsity on February 9th at Riverside Community College WGI competition. JV will start their season on February 16 at Apple Valley - ADLA competition. Tony Nunez has been doing an excellent job with the tenors and Art Narevsky has donated the backdrops and other things that are needed.

Tom Forbes - Holiday concert went extremely well - sold out!! Last Sunday’s Star News had a little review about the concert. February 23rd is the benefit dinner. “Just Fiddlin’ Around” is the theme. Green Street is the caterer. Lilian has plenty of tickets left to be sold - $35 per person. January was ensemble month - duets up to octets performed for each other during finals. A trip is being planned for 70-80 students to travel from Santa Barbara up to San Francisco. February 2nd - 120 students in the Freshman Orchestra will be performing at Disneyland . Mr. Tipton told Mr. Forbes that the district will help the music club buy new chairs. Mimi Hennessey and the Arcadia Educational Foundation has a vision of receiving $200,000 in donations to help to purchase musical instruments - They feel this can be done within 2-3 years. Their goal is that every band member has their own instrument.

Tom Landes - Dick Grumm has videotaped the Percussion Concert and Band Concert. This video can now be seen on the School District’s Cable TV. After the third show of the Spaghetti Dinner - all uniforms must be returned to school for the rest of the year. The order of the shows will be: 5:00 PM(Freshman Drill down) 7:00 PM (Sophomore and Junior Drill down) 9:00 PM (senior Drill down). The band and Color Guard will be given dinner at 3:30 and cake after the shows are all over. February is the first month of no performances. March is the Band Fusion/Spring Concert/Vertical concert. The process for ordering new band uniforms has been started. Three companies are pricing what the uniform replacement costs will be. Brian Nunez - Color Guard Instructor - Color Guard rehearsed all last weekend. Visitors from back east have flown over to help with the shows. February 2nd is the 1st World Guard show at Riverside Community College - WGI competition. Girls are working very hard and are looking forward to performing at the Spaghetti Dinner.

Joan Petersilge - There will be a car wash at Holly Avenue this coming Saturday from 9-1PM. This money will be used for the Ohio Trip. Financial Report - Sandy DeSurra distributed the monthly financial report. Scrip Program - Packets are ready to go. The Arcadia Music Club will be a test case to see how this new program works. They hope to make it District-wide. Vons will no longer charge $10 for a scrip account. AEF will be accountable if Scrip is lost in the mail. $24,000 has been earned through the PTA Scrip sales. The money has been used to purchase a Digital Surveillance Camera System and screens for the principals office and through out campus.

BRAVO Award - Mary Doherty applied through the LA Music Center for Southern California Music Programs. We have been selected as one of three finalists in Visual, Choral, Instrumental, Drama and Film.

Newsletter - January 22 is the deadline for the newsletter. Nanci announced that she has some tickets for tables at the benefit dinner. Spaghetti Dinner - Polly Green announced that the dinner will be in the school cafeteria and not the south gym. She also said that there was an article in the Pasadena Star News about the dinner. She thanked Susan Arreola for her excellent job as publicist for the music club.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00PM. The next meeting will be February 19, 2002.

Respectfully submitted,

Cathy Ryne
