ARCADIA MUSIC CLUB
GENERAL MEETING
February 19, 2002

Note:  Secretary Cathy Ryne is unfortunately absent due to a car accident.

Jim Tanner called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM.

Minutes approved.

Financial report: Sandy DeSurra distributed copies to everyone.

 

Directors:

    Tom Forbes - Orchestra Benefit on 2/26/02 - Billy & the Hillbillies

Will be performing. The theme is “Just Fiddlin Around”. It will be catered by Greene Street Restaurant. There is a capacity of 360 and the benefit is already sold out.  Next Tuesday is the Vertical Concert at Citrus College.  Australia’s Marching Koalas will be celebrating their 20th anniversary on March 2nd and 3rd. Mr. Forbes will be attending this special occasion in Australia.  He will be gone February 27th through March 9th.

    Art Farr - Disneyland performance went very well.  The kids all played well.  No complaints.  A+ in Citizenship to the kids.  Band Fusion will be Wednesday March 6th from 4pm to 8pm.  March 20th is the concert, which was to be at Pasadena High School, but has been moved to Arcadia High School because we cannot fit all of Band 2 on stage.

    Kevin Sherrill - Student teacher Fabio Spanella (graduate of 1997)

introduced indoor season percussion.  JV’s first performance placed 1st

American Drum line is competition level for JV (mostly freshman).  WDI Varsity finished 1st place. JV’s next competition will be at Newberry Park next week.  Varsity will be at Alicia Niguel the following week.

    Joan Petersilge – Color guard performed at Riverside Community College last week.  They did well and are still improving.  George Armenta has pneumonia and will have to pull out of this week’s competition.  Color guard will be performing in Las Vegas in 2 weeks.  Dayton in April and then onto the Championships.

 

Spaghetti dinner video is here and can still be purchased.  Script is

currently being sold, if interested see Debbie Riggio.  Albertsons/SavOn cards and Pavilions/Vons cards are set up.

 

Chinese Booster Club: Josephine Tung reported on the Chinese New Year celebration. Two of our directors were there.  Swan Lake was performed by these directors and others.  Mr. Landes lifted Mr. Forbes.  There is a lot of talent in this group. This event was a success and a fun night for all who attended.  Those of us who were not able to go really missed out.

 

Spaghetti dinner report.  Mr. & Mrs. Hawkins and Mr. & Mrs. Green were acknowledged for all their yearlong work.  Spaghetti dinner netted $19,200.  All of the food was donated and thank you to everyone’s hard work.  Cisco foods said they will donate next 20 years after Mr. Hawkins showed them our Rose Parade picture and program, they were very impressed.

 

Committee Chairs still needed are:  Arcadia Festival of Band Co-chair,Merchandise Chair, Percussion Chair, Spaghetti Dinner Chair, OrchestraPublicity Chair.

Next meeting we will vote on chairs for students.

5013 C status is that we need to spend money.

Next Music Club Meeting is March 19th.
