Minutes
The minutes of the September 16, 2002 General Meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report

Sandy DeSurra, treasurer, presented the treasurer’s report as of October 15, 2002, showing total cash and cash equivalents of $214,985.54.  Sandy mentioned that the reports did not reflect a check recently received from the ASB for music club memberships received during the “P” days registration of $9,325.

Mike Green noted that through July 2002, the music club had earned $677.00 through the scrip program administered by AEF and that anyone wanting to buy paper scrip or register for eScrip should contact Debbie Riggio.

Committee Reports –

Membership
Liz Westphal reported that membership pins were now available as well as cushions for silver and platinum club members. Anyone wanting to purchase additional pins may so at a cost of $5.00.

Car Wash
Tom Meikle thanked everyone for all their support and help with the car wash. Over 1,000 cars were washed and cash collections were in excess of $30,000 with a projection of approximately $34,000. Approximately $2,000 were earned by orchestra students towards the cost of their trip to Florida. Net profit to the club is 150% of budget. Tom explained that he had available thank you letters which would be sent to the three donors and encouraged everyone to sign them.

Festival of Bands
David Lee reminded everyone that the deadline for FOB ads was this Friday the 18th as the program would be going to the printer on Monday the 21st. Sample advertising forms were available. David asked that anyone not yet signed up to volunteer should see Nanci Perkins. He also noted that there was now a Chinese version of the FOB on the music club website. A press release was scheduled for November 12th announcing this year’s Grand Marshall, Ambassador Jason Yuan, the Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural office in Los Angeles.

David expressed a need for a general contractor willing to take down a portion of a wall on the Friday preceding the FOB and re-erecting it Saturday. Santa Anita mall who previously arranged for the work would now do so but at a cost of $1,200.

David noted that t-shirts and pins were now available at a cost of $10 and $5, respectively.

Newsletter
Cindy Falk reported that the newsletter should be received any time and that the next deadline would be November 22nd which would be sent out after the holidays.

PSAT
Terry Schreiner reported that approximately 1,000 students had registered for the test and that all proctors had been arranged for. /p>

Fundraising
Harry Moy reported that 90 students had sold 330 Entertainment Books. Sales officially closed October 12th.

Harry then explained that he was a member of the Community Coordinating Committee of the Arcadia Centennial, one purpose which was to disseminate information and encourage everyone to participate. Anyone wishing additional information on the celebration should contact Harry. He also stated that they were currently looking for a committee member who speaks Chinese.

Directors’ Report --

Mindy Cobb – Mindy reported that Michael Shapiro was currently donating his time and serving as an additional color guard instructor.  Mindy stated that they were working on fine tuning some errors in regards to the parade and are currently working on the end of the third number for the field show.  Color guard parade costumes had been received and would be worn at Mt. Carmel.  They just finished with the sale of the Entertainment Books and had a successful candy sale.

Art Farr – Art reported the fall string concert would be on October 24th at Pasadena High School.  Tickets would be $5.  Orchestra also just finished with their candy sale and they are currently working on the trip to Florida.  They expect to have a couple of restaurant nights in November.

Kevin Sherrill – Kevin reported that percussion is now in high gear trying to complete the fourth song and that they had 12 sets to go.  He expects them to be complete this week and have next week to practice in order to be ready for Mt. Carmel.  Kevin noted that percussion received first place with a score of 89 at Valencia which was a pretty high score for their first time out.  Percussion also just completed participation in the sale of Entertainment Books. Second semester trips to Dayton for the varsity percussion and Las Vegas for the J/V percussion have been planned. J/V is currently working on cadences and fundamentals and would be performing their cadence at the FOB and the Covina Christmas parade on December 7. A restaurant night at Domenico’s has been planned for sometime in November.

Tom Landes - Tom explained that their goal is almost always the same, that is that the students perform the best that they can do. Comparing against other schools should be left to the judges and that he only wants the students to compare to themselves. He expects them to practice at a competitive level and then go out and do their best. He then explained the three point penalty at the Valencia parade as a result of the last rank being three steps still within the competition line at the conclusion of the music. He then encouraged everyone to recruit one other person to come out and see their children perform and to help out.

New Business/Old Business
Dennis Davies reported that he had three concerns. First, he asked if anyone who had a Class A license was willing to team drive. Next year there will be a 12 hour turnaround from the trip to Florida to the trip to Dayton and that it would be a good time to have a backup driver. Second, he asked for more help around the trailer area, both with the pit truck and the regular truck. Last, he noted that he felt that the trailer needed work done to the exterior and whether some money could be allocated to repainting the exterior. The truck still had the original white painting which was done in 1984/1985 and was showing signs of deterioration and rust.

The next general meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at 7 p.m. The meeting was then adjourned to separate band and orchestra meetings at 8:08 p.m. whereby parents could receive more detail about the individual programs.

Respectfully submitted,
