Arcadia Music Club Minutes Treasurer’s Report President’s Report Mike Green announced that a card was circulating for Art Farr who is going in for a coronary by-pass operation on Wednesday. He stated that the Orchestra made over $500.00 on the Macy’s fundraiser. Sharp Seating on Colorado, just west of Lake Avenue, is the place to go for Bandfest and T of R Parade seats. Sue Narevsky has a few Bandfest tickets left to sell tonight, but when they are gone, Sharp Seating takes over. Sue Narevsky is also selling T of R T shirts and pins. She has a supply with her tonight. A nominating committee is necessary to offer board positions for next year. Jim Eberhardt is heading that committee and needs volunteers to meet in January and present the nominations to the general meeting in February. March the votes will be taken. Volunteers for the Nominating Committee include Jim Eberhardt, Michael Hawkins, Sue Miekle, Jim Tanner, Sandy DeSurra, and Josephine Tung. SCRIP sales from May through September of this year have netted over $1200.00 for the Music Club. Debbie Riggio encourages everyone to sign up for this painless fundraiser! Director’s Reports Tom Forbes: Thanked parents for coming out for the meeting. The staff and students worked hard for the Holiday Concert. And did exceptionally well. On Wednesday, period 4 Orchestra will be taking a walking trip to play for senior citizens at the Community Center. Parent volunteers are needed to accompany the students. String Orchestra 3 will be playing a number for the Orchesis Dance group at the benefit for the Daniel Fox Accident Fund on Thursday night. The annual Charity Show will raise funds to go directly to the Fox family. The string quartets have been busy during December playing 10 – 12 jobs outside of school. The popular chenille Music letter has been reordered and will be available for purchase as soon as they come in. The cost is $12.00 each. Tom Landes: The Band’s final performance of the competition season was the field show at La Mirada High School the week after Festival of Bands. Although the band placed 5th, the directors and students felt extremely proud of the performance and students were applauding and cheering as they watched the video that night. Pride in work is what we hope for. That was a big win for the directors and the students. The band is in the process of putting in the miles to prepare for the 5.5 mile trip down Colorado Boulevard on New Year’s day. Monday through Thursday, the band logs 1 to 2 miles each morning, playing and marching back and forth on Campus Drive. The rehearsal schedule for the Parade is 8 – 11:30 a.m. on December 27 and 28. Bandfest is on December 30 with our performance at 10:30 a.m., then the Parade itself on January 1. Students will have to be in the band room by 5:00 a.m. on the January 1 and parents will be needed in the room for last minute adjustments and preparations. No parents can accompany the band down Colorado. Students are encouraged to wear thick athletic socks, or sock liners with their socks so that blisters and foot sores can be avoided during the Parade. One of the worst things that could happen during the 5.5 mile march is having unexpected problems with your feet. The students should be back at school by about 3:00 after the parade. Professional photos will be taken at Bandfest and at the Parade. Parents will be able to purchase those photos as soon as they arrive and are posted. The best update we have for Art is that surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning and they anticipate doing a five way by-pass. He is at Methodist Hospital. Mr. Landes will e-mail Polly Green with any updates as time goes on. The Farr home address was given out for anyone wishing to send him a message. The recovery process has patients up and walking the next day. Art will be in the hospital for 5 days and out of work at least 4 weeks.
News from the Floor Coyla Grumm spoke about the upcoming budget cuts within the district and asked if the Music Club would be able to provide assistance to the directors for paper and supply costs. The district is expecting even deeper cuts as the new state budget is adopted. Dennis Davies is still researching costs for the repainting and refurbishing of the trailer. Paul Westphal also has a contact he would like to pursue. He was given the go-ahead. Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Terry Schreiner |
